Southampton Children's Hospital is part of an NHS Trust providing paediatric and paediatric emergency medicine services. The hospital's clinical and education teams adopted Eolas Medical to consolidate resources that were previously spread across multiple sites and media types.
Before Eolas, relevant clinical and staff information was scattered across multiple sites and media types — paper documents, posters, emails, and electronic files. Inducting new Resident Doctors into the department meant directing them to locate or receive huge amounts of resource from disparate sources, and much of it was simply never seen. Clinical guidelines were housed on a central website, but this represented yet another resource point that staff had to navigate separately.
Onboarding was described as very easy. Once staff had the opportunity to explore the app and see its potential, it was quickly adopted across the team. Whilst the benefits have been difficult to quantify in hard metrics, staff satisfaction feedback and the smoother induction processes for Resident Doctors provided clear evidence of the platform's value within weeks.
Although active measurement of efficiency gains was not undertaken, the team confirmed that accessing information through Eolas is definitely faster than using the Trust intranet. The consolidation of previously fragmented resources into a single platform has streamlined how staff find what they need.
Guideline adherence was already strong before Eolas, thanks to an established regional hub process. The platform's contribution has been more in accessibility and convenience rather than changing adherence behaviour. Patient care impact has been hard to quantify but is supported by improved access to resources and faster integration of new doctors into clinical workflows.
The platform has particularly improved the experience for new Resident Doctors, who now have faster access to useful resources and integrate into the department more quickly. Staff feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.

"We have been very pleased with our integration of the Eolas platform into the Children's Hospital in Southampton. This has enabled us to provide quick and reliable access to a wide number of clinical and non-clinical resources for Doctors and Nurses of varying seniority which has improved the efficiency of the workforce, staff satisfaction and reduced frustration with our legacy options. I have been very impressed at the flexibility of the platform in being able to adapt to our needs and the ease of using the resource manager to add material to the app in real-time. I highly recommend this to other departments/Trusts."
