Background
Salisbury Hospital NHS Trust provides maternity, obstetrics, gynaecology, and neonatology services across its acute hospital site. Before adopting Eolas Medical, the guideline management team faced numerous challenges with their previous system: uploading new guidelines was extremely labour-intensive and time-consuming, the system did not integrate well with Word documents or other programmes, handling pictures and figures was problematic, printing from the system was not possible, and hyperlinks for cross-referencing guidelines did not work reliably.
Implementation
The transition to Eolas Medical was a Trust-wide decision that was well supported across the organisation. The implementation was very quick, and the team began seeing benefits almost immediately — particularly in the speed and ease of uploading and managing guideline content.
Impact on Guideline Management
Eolas Medical has transformed the guideline management workflow for the maternity team. The platform is easier to navigate and find information within, and staff can be confident they are always accessing the latest edition of any guideline. The guideline team in particular have expressed positive feedback about the improved experience.
Access Considerations
The team noted that whilst Eolas Medical ensures clinicians always access the most current version of guidelines, phone-based access can sometimes be slower for clinicians who cannot easily use their devices. However, the improvement in guideline currency — always having the latest edition available — represents a meaningful quality improvement. Community teams have also benefited from easier access following computer upgrades, further extending the reach of the platform.
