Dr Declan Kelly

Medical doctor, software engineer and founder of Eolas Medical, building AI-powered tools to give clinicians instant access to critical medical knowledge.

Declan Kelly is a former medical medicine doctor turned healthcare technology entrepreneur, dedicated to solving one of modern medicine’s most persistent problems: access to critical clinical knowledge. After years on the frontlines of the NHS, Declan experienced firsthand how the inefficiencies in accessing guidelines, policies, and protocols hinder clinical decision-making and impact patient care. Frustrated by these barriers combined with his software engineering background he built the first version of Eolas Medical from scratch. Now CEO and founder of Eolas Medical, Declan leads a team that has scaled the platform from a single hospital to over 400 healthcare sites globally, including 80% of the NHS, 40% of Ireland’s medical workforce, and major US institutions like Stanford and Mass General. Under his leadership, Eolas has grown to over 110,000 monthly active users and has pioneered the use of AI-powered retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) to deliver instant, structured clinical answers at the point of care. Declan combines deep clinical insight with technical fluency and a strong commercial mindset. He is passionate about making healthcare safer, more efficient, and more intuitive for clinicians everywhere. His work sits at the intersection of medicine, technology, and system-wide change—always with the clinician and patient in mind.

The Golden Triangle of Clinical AI

We've been diving into the three streams of synthesis converging at the moment of clinical decision and have written an article exploring each corner... Conversation Synthesis i.e what is being said in the room, Chart Synthesis i.e what is known about this patient and Knowledge Synthesis i.e both what medicine knows and how this health system practises. Each corner has its own category leaders. Each is at a different stage of maturity. Each has real limits. The integrated future of Clinical AI runs on all three.
