University Hospitals Southampton's Paediatrics department serves as a hospital-based team that previously had no single location for educational resources. Out-of-date links, unmaintained resources, and individual teams generating their own storage solutions meant that finding the right information was often time-consuming and inconsistent.
The team acknowledged that onboarding required effort, particularly for staff who are less comfortable with technology. A bespoke "how to" guide was created to help colleagues navigate the platform, and once users became familiar with the process, the overall experience was positive. Benefits were seen relatively soon after implementation.
Once staff knew how to navigate the platform, the time spent finding specific team guidelines, care pathways, and educational resources was significantly reduced. For areas such as specific team guides, access became definitively quicker. The platform's ability to centralise previously fragmented resources into one location has been a clear advantage for the department.
The team reported that guideline adherence has generally improved, noting that when resources are easier to access, clinicians are by default more likely to use them. This organic improvement in compliance has been a natural benefit of having everything in one place.
Staff have found Eolas Medical easier to use than previous methods of locating guidelines and resources. The centralisation of team-specific materials has been particularly well received.
"I really like the Eolas app. Once embedded within a team, centralising the resources used in the team is done really well within the app and this has obvious benefits for team compliance. Eolas can really help a team bring resources together."
The team has identified opportunities for further improvement, particularly around simplifying the navigation process to ensure that all staff — regardless of technical confidence — can make the most of the platform from day one.
