Before Eolas Medical, the Antimicrobial Stewardship team at Carilion Clinic faced significant barriers to getting their resources into the hands of clinicians across a large healthcare system. Antibiotic treatment guidelines, data dashboards, provider education materials, microbiology guides, and other stewardship tools were not housed centrally, and many were behind a firewall — making bedside access particularly challenging.
Implementing Eolas was described as very straightforward. The team had complete control over the content, which they loaded into the platform over the course of a few weeks. The intuitive organizational structure of Eolas allowed them to arrange their resources in a way that made sense for clinicians. To drive adoption, the team created simple printed and digital postcards with download instructions, which were distributed by physician and pharmacy leadership across the organization.
All clinical guidance and stewardship resources are now in a single place, accessible at the bedside where clinicians most often need them. The organizing structure has proven intuitive, making it easy for clinicians to find the right resources quickly. Engagement with the platform has been sustained over the first four months of implementation.
Perhaps the most striking outcome is the nearly 4-fold increase in access to antimicrobial stewardship resources since the launch of Eolas compared to the period before the app was available. While the team does not have specific speed metrics, this dramatic increase in engagement demonstrates that clinicians are finding and using the resources far more readily than before.
Carilion Clinic plans to measure the impact on guideline adherence and patient care outcomes in the coming months, and looks forward to integrating AI into the platform to support clinical decision-making.
"Eolas has helped us to organize our antimicrobial stewardship resources in a single location and bring them to the bedside where they are most beneficial for clinicians."
